Definition of Listening 


-Listening is the ability to understand and respond effectively to and communication. 

-Listening perceives sound from the speaker, attaching meanings to the words, Designing appropriate response and remembering what the speaker has said by interpreting the massage. 


Advantage of Listening 


-Respect 

you listen with full attention ,you are communicating respect. By offering speaker respect, you are likely to gain their in return . by being respectful while someone is speaker, It also demonstrates to other around you, your leadership style and that you value people by giving them your full attention. 


Information 

-attentive Listening helps you learn more about others. Knowing  more about people is helpful in your professional life as wall as personal life . imagine the benefits when you   understand your colleagues ,manager, customers ,partner,friends and family membership

 better. 


Greater clarity 


-careful Listening helps you clearly understand what people are trying to say and therefore assists avoid some of the confusion ,misunderstanding and potential  conflicts that are opportunities to really understand. As convey said -”most people do not listen with the intent to reply. “so forget about the reply, just listen and seek to truly understand what the person is saying .


Type of Listening 


1 . Receiving 


First stage of the -Listening

 process is receiving.  This stage is represented by the ear because It is the primary tool involved with this stage of the listening process. This is the basic stage where an individual hears a message being sent by a speaker. 


2. Understanding 


To understand symbol we have heard, we must analyze the meaning of the speaker. It is the stage at you learn what the speaker means,the thought and the emotions. The listener must understand the intended meaning and the context assumed by the sender.


3.Remembering 


It is listening process because It means that an individual has not only received and interested a message but has also added It to mind's storage bank;but just as our attention is selective, so too our memory what is remembered may be quite different from what was originally heard. 


4. Evaluating 


It is a stage which active listeners participate.  The active listener sorts fact from opinion and determines the presence or absence of bias or  prejudice in a message.  It consists of judging the massage in some way . at times, you may try to Evaluate the speakers underlying intentions or motives. 


5. Responding 


At this we plan our reply to the message. This stage requires that the receiver complete the process through verbal and non verbal feedback because the speaker has no other way to determine if a message listening is effective. 

   #  Types of Listening 

 1.Appreciateve Listening 

Appreciateve Listening is listening for deriving aesthetic pleasure, as we do when we listen to a comedian, musicians, of entertainer. 

Empathic Listening 

    -As we have learnt ,empathy is a very important in communications, particularly in Listening.  a good example of empathic  listening  is that  practised  by nurse .so much so that it gives a healing touch to the patients. for the effective empathetic Listening,  one has the feel what the speaker is feeling .one has to appreciateve the  speaker's emotions, circumstance,  mind set and perspective, and be able to provide emotional and moral support. 

When psychiatric  listening to her subjects , she employs empathetic listening.  we must feel the person's nerves .this can be done throught pursues like .'I your understand what you have a gone through, ' it must be difficult to face such a situation ,'etc . Sometimes the situation is a very sensitive and must be handled with caution. 

 2. Compressive Listening 
This type of listening is needed in the classroom when students have to listen to the lecturer to understand and comprehend  the messager. similarly ,when someone is giving to directions  to find the location of a place ,compressive listening is  required to receive interparet the message.

 3. Critical Listening 
Also know as Evaluative,   judgemental, or interpretive  listening critical listening involves analysing ,evaluating , judging. What is the being saru, just As we formulate  opinion about people before they speak based on their physical attributes, We also tend to get judgemental  about the  contents their speech.

4.superficial Listening 
Superficial listening can be compared with hearing or passive listening .one pretends to be listening by giving  fake expressions  to avoid offending the speakers. However  not, much is fed  into the brain .this happen, For example, when one is a forced to attend  a guest lecture on an area that is not of one's inrest.

# Active Listening 

image that a member of your team, in a meeting with the potential clients, involuntarily  keep yawning. This  behaviour would obviously put the Clientsv off . their professional evolution  of your organization  would be negative and they might not want to  ahead with their business proposal.  We would definitely not want someone dozing off when we are speaking to them. like wise, we should attentively listen when someone else is  adressing us.

Listening is a very important skills. Most people are obvious of the time they spend in purposeful Listening.  listening is a quite similar to rearing, as it involves the reception and decoding  of verbal message from another person. It is unwise to rely solely on receiving the message;
